Who should book a hip replacement assessment?
You can book to discuss a previous recommendation or persistent hip problems that affect ordinary activities. Bring existing X-rays, MRI reports if available, prescriptions and your questions. You do not need to arrange a new scan before the visit.
The assessment is with Dr. Himanshu Gaur at the CR Park clinic. The OPD consultation fee is Rs. 1000. If the cause of your pain is unclear, start with general hip pain and AVN assessment.
How is the decision about hip replacement made?
Dr. Gaur reviews symptoms, walking and movement, imaging, previous treatment and overall health. Pain that disrupts sleep, stiffness, or difficulty walking and dressing can make an assessment useful. Age or an imaging report alone does not decide treatment.
Conditions considered include osteoarthritis, AVN, inflammatory arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis, and arthritis after an earlier injury. For arthritis, replacement is usually discussed when symptoms still limit daily life despite suitable non-surgical treatment. The question is whether replacement offers a reasonable benefit for your particular condition and goals.
What alternatives may be suitable?
Depending on the diagnosis, options may include medicines, activity changes, a walking aid or guided physiotherapy. These can support symptoms and function when appropriate.
Early AVN may have joint-preserving options, including surgery such as core decompression in selected cases. Physiotherapy does not reverse established AVN damage. If the joint surface has collapsed or damage is advanced, replacement may be discussed. You do not need to complete a fixed course of exercises before every surgical decision; the stage and safety of the condition matter.
How are hip replacement costs and hospital plans discussed?
If replacement is recommended, surgery is arranged at Apollo Spectra Hospital, Chirag Enclave, New Delhi. Consultations take place at the CR Park clinic.
Our clinic prepares estimates based on the proposed treatment. The consultation fee is not a surgery package price. Contact the clinic about an estimate for your case.
What can hip replacement help with, and what are the risks?
Hip replacement replaces damaged joint surfaces with artificial components. It aims to reduce pain and improve movement; the result and activity limits vary between patients.
Risks include infection, blood clots, dislocation, differences in leg length, nerve or tissue injury, and implant wear that may require further surgery. Discuss your individual risks and expectations before deciding.
How should I prepare if surgery is advised?
Discuss your medical conditions, medicines and any current infection with the treating team. Follow the advised fitness assessment and preparation plan; do not change medicines on your own.
Plan help with daily tasks, transport and a safe home setup. Tell the team about stairs, low seating and the support available at home so preparation fits your circumstances.
What does recovery and follow-up involve?
Walking support and exercises are introduced according to your condition and the treating team's advice. Discharge and progress depend on safety and recovery, rather than one timetable for everyone.
Physiotherapy is provided at the CR Park clinic by a dedicated physiotherapy specialist under Dr. Gaur's supervision. The clinic schedules postoperative follow-up appointments at CR Park. Discuss transport and any difficulty attending before surgery. Read about physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
When should I seek urgent medical help?
Severe hip pain after a fall or an inability to put weight through the leg needs urgent hospital assessment. Do not wait for a routine replacement appointment.
After surgery, seek prompt medical assessment for fever, wound discharge or worsening leg pain and swelling. Chest pain or difficulty breathing needs emergency care immediately. Follow your discharge instructions for urgent concerns rather than waiting for a callback.

FAQs
Does AVN always mean I need hip replacement?
No. The AVN stage, extent of damage and whether the joint surface has collapsed guide the discussion. Joint-preserving treatment may be suitable earlier; advanced damage may need a replacement opinion.
How do I get an estimate for hip replacement?
Our clinic prepares estimates based on the proposed treatment. Contact the clinic to discuss your case. The consultation fee is separate from the surgery estimate.
When can I walk, use stairs or return to work?
These steps depend on your recovery, walking safety and work demands. Follow the plan given by your treating team and physiotherapist, including any walking aid or support you need.
Can I sit on the floor or use an Indian-style toilet?
Discuss these needs before surgery. Deep bending, low seating and squatting may need restrictions or a different setup during recovery. Follow your surgeon's specific precautions rather than testing these positions yourself.
When can I drive again?
Ask your treating team when driving is safe for you. Recovery, control of the leg and medicines that affect alertness matter; arrange transport while you are recovering.
